If you have a high consumption billing, please check the following before calling the Water Billing Department at 847-854-3440.
Check Water Meter Reading
□ Verify the reading on the water meter. Lift the lid of the meter to view the reading display. The reading display looks similar to the odometer in your car.
o Reading display .
□ Read the meter at night before bed, then again first thing in the morning. Is there a difference? (Yes -> submit service request) - if there is a difference, check the water softener is not malfunctioning.
□ 1. Is Water Softener functioning appropriately? Check the regeneration timing to make sure it is not cycling too often or if the unit is malfunctioning.
o Yes: then check Toilet
o No: Unplug, put it into bypass, and call for service
□ 2. Toilets Functioning
o Yes: Does anyone use water during the night? For example, drink or flush
§ Yes: monitor water consumption
No: do the Dye Test- Check your toilets for a silent leak. Put a couple of drops of food coloring into the toilet tank. DO NOT FLUSH; wait 10-15 minutes; if color seeps into the bowl, the tank parts need to be replaced. (custom page OR Questionnaire)
o Do you have to jiggle the handles on your toilets? If so, the jiggling may stop the running or may need to replace the tank parts. (Yes -> Custom page OR Questionnaire)

Appliances
Have you checked all your water appliances? Washing machines, ice maker, dish washer, reverse osmosis system, humidifier, etc. If you don’t see any malfunctioning, monitor your water consumption.
